Back home again from our travels we found ourselves in the middle of a heat - wave.  How wonderful!

We spent several weeks in Tenerife where the temperature was well in to the thirties on our balcony and around the pool.

Needless to say this is just what we wanted.
Sun, sun and more sun.  However we did visit the bridge clubs and once more were given a great welcome.

There were three we visited on a regular basis and we would like to thank everyone for having us.

I don’t normally go into details of our playing but one hand will stand out in my memory for ever.

Terry opened spade (card majors) and opposite I am sitting with 21 points and a singleton spade.

I went 4 clubs asking for aces only to get the dreaded 4Diamond response.

What a dilemma!

Finally with only 2 aces in my hand I did the only thing I could think of, I bid 4 spades.

Terry played it superbly and brought home the bacon.

However later in the afternoon one of the non English Speaking Italians appeared apoplectic at our table, shaking with temper and accusing us of putting down the wrong score.

His temper did not improve as we assured him that the score was correct.
Impossible!  Impossible!’ rang in our ears for the rest of the board.

None of the other boards gave us as much fun.

We even arranged an impromptu bridge match at the Atlantiswhich went very well.

More are being planned for next year as I write.

ACBL once more lead the world.   They have a “face book” page as well as “twitter” bridge

I have been looking at bridge materials and came across Richmond.   Some of their cards appealed to my weird sense of humour.
